On Thursday, January 23, beloved Today show weatherman Al Roker joined Baked By Melissa founder Melissa Ben-Ishay in her kitchen.
The surprising duo paired up to share Roker’s chocolate chip pancake recipe, which is in his new cookbook, Al Roker’s Recipes to Live By.
“Here’s what’s cooking in your neck of the woods!” Ben-Ishay captioned the video, referring to Roker’s signature Today show catchphrase.
While going through the recipe step by step, Roker was his typical cheerful self making Ben-Ishay laugh several times.
When it was time to cook the pancakes, Ben-Ishay could be heard saying, “Look, mom and dad, Al Roker’s making pancakes in my kitchen.”
“They love you,” she told Roker, who replied with an “awe.”
“I feel like I grew up with you,” Ben-Ishay added.
“That’s when you realize you’re old, when grown adults are coming up and going, ‘I grew up watching you.’ Well thanks a lot!” he joked.
Ben-Ishay then left Roker with a controversial suggestion, adding salt to the pancakes after dousing them with syrup.
“Salt?” Roker asked. “Yeah because salt brings out flavor,” Ben-Ishay explained, which blew Roker’s mind.
After taking a taste test of the finished pancake stack, they agreed that they were “drop-the-fork delicious.”
“Those are so good,” Ben-Ishay told an appreciative Roker, who joined in on her signature outro, “Love you. Bye.”
